Every person living in a long-term care facility deserves respect, dignity, and quality care—no exceptions.
Too often, concerns go unnoticed or unreported. But together, we can advocate, speak up, and protect our loved ones and community members.
What Does Quality Care Look Like?
Quality care means:
– Individualized care that meets each resident’s needs and preferences
– Support for the highest possible level of well-being
– Respect for dignity, choice, and independence
Signs of good care include:
– Clean, comfortable environments
– Friendly staff who respond quickly to needs
– Residents who appear clean, happy, and engaged
– Respectful communication and meaningful daily activities
Warning Signs to Watch For
Not all care is created equal. Be alert for:
– Slow or ignored responses to call lights
– Residents with little choice in daily routines
– Declining food quality or limited options
– High staff turnover or unfamiliar caregivers
– Lack of activities or social engagement
Serious Red Flags
Take action immediately if you notice:
– Sudden behavior changes (fearful, withdrawn)
– Unexplained injuries or weight loss
– Poor hygiene or strong odors
– Overmedication or unnecessary restraints
– Missing belongings or unresolved complaints
