ALBANY, GA – In May 2023, local artist Melissa Strother presented a watercolor painting she created of the Sowega Council on Aging’s (SCOA) Regional Resource Center, to her grandmother, Kay Hind, longtime SCOA director. Hind retired in 2017 at the age of 86 after serving just a few months shy of 50 years with the agency.

Strother was delighted to use her talent to honor her grandmother.

“My grandmother’s lifelong dedication to our community, and specifically the senior citizens of our area, is an inspiration to so many,” she said. “She has always been one of my greatest role models and most devoted supporters, and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to paint a building that holds a piece of her heart.”
